engine swap alpha gen question

I have a 1988 baja that the engine is bad. The current engine is a 4.3 with the alpha 1 gen 1 I need to know if I bought a newer 4.3 early 1990s that had an alpha 1 gen 2 if it would bolt up to the alpha 1 gen 1 thanks

Yes, it should bolt right up. Food for thought-----a small block chevy (pre-LS) shared the same bolt pattern as the 4.3. 305/350/400sb would all be candidates! manifolds and a little wiring mods and your into a V8!:D

Yes it will but the best thing you can do before installing the newer engine is to install a new engine coupler and a new starter. Check the flywheel out closely as well.

BUP is correct! Way easier when it's out the first time then taking it out the second time. (Don't ask me how I know!)

Ayuh,.... Any of the 4.3ls from '88 to present will bolt right in,.....

A motor newer than, 'bout '92 or so, will need electric fuel pump added, as the newer blocks aren't drilled for the mechanical pumps,....

I'd install a SBC if it was mine. Just my .02.

early 90's from Merc 4.3 's still had manual fuel pumps. I think MODEL year 1995 or possible MODEL year 1996 merc started with electric FP

Also the Alpha GEN II started in 1991 1/2..

4.3 with the balance shaft started somewhere in the 90's want to say 1994 could be wrong about that. I forgot exactly the year about that one. When the balance shaft started in the 4.3 they got rid of the fluid motor mounts in which are NLA thru Mercruiser.
