Just wanted to see combos and if using Dominators what kinda jetting to start with ... These were dyno'd on Tom Earhart's dyno. I will never forget what he told me back then was something like;..."I have dyno'd a lot of engines over the past years, and I have never seen an engine "follow" as well as I have seen on yours today!" Tom felt that the engines responded very well...the best he had seen up until that time. So, that says something about untouched "off the shelf" carbs from even back about 14 years ago or so. I am not saying the 830cfm Holley's would have given the biggest power over a Dominator or whatever, but they worked great in the boat for an untouched, out of the box little carb on a 540cid NA engine....the boat was a runner. |

Lots of input in this thread---I'm not able to read the entire thread but, when I built a pair of 540cid NA engines about 13 years ago, I used an off the shelf Holley 830cfm carb, and a hyd roller cam 236*/244* @.050" lift and about .600" total lift on the lobes, Dart Pro-1 310cc heads....and at I think we made peak power at about 5400-5500rpm.

Tim, i think someone keeps telling me good reliable hp costs money. Lol |
why dont you just dyno them with the 850's that you already have and see how the perform and what kind of power they make. your combination has been proven with 850's many of times, if you like what you see then it will solve many of problems for you and keep the money in your pocket. if you don't like the results then you know what you have to buy and how to modify your hatch. you just might be pleasantly surprised at how well they run with the 850's and with the money saved you could boat all summer on your savings. just a thought, cant hurt
