Kaama 400hp Carb GM 454 on 1991 Sonic 31ss
Hi
I'm looking to buy a 1991 Sonic 31ss with 2 x 454 400hp built by Kaama, merc. bravo 1 drive, Hydromotive prop. 24p, I try to find information about these engine but without result (What kind of head on it, witch cams, roller or not, etc.) Can you help me? Here is a picture of the engine. What kind of speed this boat can do with this engine and prop ? Thank you http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i7...ps3ihbz7vi.jpg |
Kaama put their drives in formula 302's. And put their valve covers or something on the engines. Kaama written on top of those motors means nothing. They could just as well be 87 suburban motors as anything else. You want to know what heads, pull a valve cover. What cams? Degree wheel and dial indicator. Either that or take what seller says as gospel.

Kaama didn't build production engines if I recall. Innovation Marine built the engines and Kaama stuck a sticker or valve cover on them. Kaama drive/motor packages generally used Hardin(?) P1 (I remember the P1, not sure it was Hardin) exhaust manifold. Nice engines, but not Kaama built. Derek is right, need some investigation to know what you really have.
Innovation in all their Kaama builds (to my knowlege from 375hp up) used LS6 motors with rectangular port heads and intake, basically stock. As horsepower ratings went up they changed cams and went to single plane intakes. Their smallest was a 375 hp and their largest "stock" model for Kaama was 475hp? Mine were 375hp and all off the shelf GM stuff when I started. |
Kaama offered a 375hp and a 425hp.

Thank guys, that can help me a lot.
The seller claim the boat run 68-70 mph gps with low weight. I think this boat need at least 400-450hp a side to run this speed. |
CD P1 exhaust by Hardin Marine correct .. not in the pic .. think those Gill. but that style crank driven water pump was typical of a Kaama set up. Steph?? oil pans say Dooley on the kick outs??
