wix oil filters
I have been using the Wix 51060R. It says for racing applications only. What exactly does that mean?. I noticed on the Wix 51060 standard filter everything is the same accept the Fl;ow Rate GPM. The 51060 has a flow rate of 9-11 GPM and the 51060R has a rating of 28 GPM. Is that the only difference.? How much oil does my engine pump? It only holds 8 quarts. Wouldn't a standard Wix 51060 be ok?
Just wondering |
R flows more because it lets bigger partcles by,size that Apollard can see w/ the naked eye.:)
and the non R will be fine for your engine. |
Thanks, I just order a case of them

The NAPA gold is the same wix non racing filter...easier to find around here
|
|
If you want more capacity you can run 51794 which is the same filter but taller (2 quarts).
With stock power the non-R filter is more than fine. With that flow rate you are filtering your oil approx. 2x per minute with a 5 quart pan. |

Would the R filters be better for the 500efi's. Looking to change to them this year from the merc ones
|
You will be fine with the Non-"R" filter on your 500HP. Better filtering and more than adequate flow
|
Ok thanks

So does NAPA. I'll keep running the R filters, they really don't cost that much.
I wouldn't run the R filter. The micron rating isn't low enough to filter your oil effectively . The R filter is for someone that changes there oil very frequently ( such as a race engine ) . You will be hurting yourself in the long run. Someone mentioned the 51794 ( 2 Quart Filter ) That's what I would run if you can fit it, the filter media is about twice as long as the 51060. Less pressure drop , more flow , increased filtering capacity. Ive used the 51794 on 800HP Sprint Car Engines without any issues. Buy a filter cutter from Jegs or Summit and look insde the different brands , you'll get an education! |

Unless you running large volume dry sump oil pumps , that need the volume ( GPM ) .

I just got 4 of the 51794's I like the idea of the better filtering yet bigger for better flow so I gess we will see how they work out.
