AEM or INNOVATE

Looking for an A/F ratio gauge for a Procharged fuel injected engine...

The "failsafe" gauges have caught my eye figuring I could hook the output to a boost controller, rev limiter or at the very least a warning light..

I'm having a hard time deciding between the two...

The Innovate

The AEM

Anyone have any experience with either one ?

THANKS !

Doug

Price out the O2 sensors for replacement see what that is. Might sway you one way.

I really like that Innovate piece with the output relay. I hope I read the info right.

The AEM is harder to see in bright light.

I have the innovate. O2's can be found cheap on flee bay. More importantly, the software works great. I had MEFI burn and inno's software running screen shot video at same time on the laptop. Had my tuning done in a couple hours. I don't have the "safe" function though. Does that have the "anolog" sweep also?

Innovate,

the rags need to do another test of FR meters.see if some of them got any better.Innovate was very accurate a long time ago.I see them not getting any less accurate.

So, after reading the manuals for both I still can't decide.

I like the analog sweep design of the AEM but its not much good if you can't read it in sunlight.

I guess my biggest question between the two is the way the alarm function works.

With the AEM you go to configuration, drive it when it's functioning properly and it records data points on a graph to base the warning setting off of.

The innovate looks like you set a boost trip point and a minimum AFR and that's it. .

Are the additional data points important ?

IMO, if the alarm is loud enough to be heard at WOT great. Otherwise, most engines are set and forget. I barely ever look at them. Oil pressure, water pressure and temp get my attention.

If you're tuning, you'll likely be looking at other data via computer.

I vote for the Innovate. I have the MTX-L in my exhaust pipes on. My exhaust is dry but I installed the O2 bungs about 2 inches behind the turbos on the O2 heat sinks Innovate sells. I have the gauges mounted on a pod on the dashboard and even in bright sunlight I can see the numbers. The only problem I had so far was I wiped out one O2 I think from water getting up the pipe. The O2 would not recalibrate. I just use my O2 for reference because my engines are still carburated. I like the fail safe function.

Check out fjo electronics . I have had them on 2 different boats with no issues .a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

I have the AEM gauge and even with dark sunglasses in bright sunlight you can see the guage OK...... I do haves a problem with the guage getting moisture inside the lens on occasion but other than that it works fine......
