Holy CRAP! I can finally get pics to load on this damn page! Well anyway this is my new 31' Excel I just picked up this week. Just got done doin some shopping today for all the crap for it since I sold all my other gear with the Formula. The interior is pretty nice with all updated gauges and stuff, and i just got it sitting right on the new trailer today too, just needs some TLC on the outside, but I think I'll be putting a wrap on it after this season anyway. I'll take it out after this Easter crap is over with and I can get a free day to fart around on the river, and hopefully get a mph/rpm out of it and see if these 21p Mirage + props that see on it are anywhere close to what it needs. I was told it runs about 60, which seems a little slow for twin 365 mag motors but we'll see!

Looks good! My Scarab is basically a twin to yours but I'm running Mirage 23P and the stock 365hp Mag engines would run 65 ~ 67mph.

gmgearhead454 04-06-2015 09:24 PM

I'm gonna borrow a set of 23s next time I take it out and give it a try!

wfo1 04-09-2015 06:29 PM

That boat is from loto correct? Did you get a survey, or at least check it out really well? I heard there was a reason it was listed so cheap.

gmgearhead454 04-09-2015 06:57 PM

Yeah it has a few things that needs repaired, a survey was done and I knew of everything before I purchased it. A stringer is cracked and the forward bulkhead has some stress cracks and moisture. Thankfully I know my way around boats fairly well and can repair damn near anything, and if I can't personally I have close friends in every marine related occupation, so something that needed a little bit if work here and there for a good deal is what I was looking for :) I'll keep you all posted on its progress, I got big plans for it!

wfo1 04-09-2015 07:05 PM

Good deal, just wanted to make sure you knew what you had. Maybe I'll see you on the river this summer.

gmgearhead454 04-09-2015 07:07 PM

I'll be out in 2 weekends as long as the river don't do anything stupid... lol. I boat in between the Winfield and Alton damns

indysupra 04-09-2015 07:32 PM

Looks good. I always liked that paint scheme.

gmgearhead454 04-12-2015 08:09 PM

Everybody that sees this boat tells me how much they love the paint color & scheme... it's funny cause I think it's uglier then a big ol ' pile of dog f***! Lol oh well it will get wrapped soon enough. Anyway, I took it out today and ran it for a bit, and it topped out at 60.1 mph, that was in glass smooth water, 21p Mirage + props, and with the trim set at number 5 (seems to get the most RPM at that level), it was spinning 5100 rpms. I have a set of 23p Mirage non-plus props I just got but didn't have a chance to try them today. One tach was saying 4700 while the other one was at 5100, but the one at 4700 was flicking all over the place all day so it may be f'ed up. What do you guys think of those speeds/numbers? They match or seem kinda slow? Obviously that's way to slow for me and I'll be fixing that soon as well, lol, but for now maybe the 23's could get me closer to 65? Idk I guess I'll have to punch in the numbers and see if I'm getting to much prop slip with the 21s or not

nova26 04-12-2015 11:08 PM

I love the lines and color, it's timeless.

gmgearhead454 04-19-2015 12:29 PM

Just got off the river yesterday trying out the new props, at first it was running 21p Mirage + props and was turning 5100 rpms @ 60 gps (2 people, 1/4 tank)... yesterday I put on 23p Mirage non-plus props, and the best it did was 4950 rpms @ 60 gps (4 people, 1/2 tank)... so basically same speed but I had more weight in it this time. Also with the 23s it was WAY sensative getting on plane, it would blow the props off if you weren't real careful and gradual. It also wasted to carry the bow really high unless the drives were tucked all the way in. It seems like everyone with stock 31' excels run 3 blades, but I want something to get on plane better, get the stern up more while cruising, and drop the rpms. You really think I would lose much top end if I went with 22 or 24 4-blade? It seems like it would run better with them. Any chance of gaining any mph with them?

rawhiri 04-19-2015 01:31 PM

Hi, Got any pics of the interior, looking for new ideas for my 31 excel.

gmgearhead454 04-19-2015 01:53 PM

I'll try to grab some later today, I'm gonna be redoing a few things in it soon, apparently these boats weren't set up for people with drinking problems as there is only ONE cupholder in the cockpit! Lol got any ideas for props for me? It will be getting whipples soon which will put it right at about what your hp500s put out... what are you running?

dandercam1 04-19-2015 04:50 PM

I had a 91 scarab 31 with 502's and ran both stock 27p mirage plus and lab finished 28p bravos. Ran 77-78 consistently on the top end with either prop but getting on plane and mid range was much better with the 4 blade bravo's. With the lab finished 28's the boat would come on plane effortlessly at about 1900 rpm... a good friend owns that boat now and he loves it as much as I did.. 31 scarab is a great all around boat.

gmgearhead454 04-19-2015 05:19 PM

I wouldn't expect this boat to run that fast with stock power, but 60 just seems sluggish. So basically I need some steeper props... I'm gonna hunt down some 4 blades. What rpms were you turning?

dandercam1 04-19-2015 07:03 PM

Good running 502's probably close to 500 hp. Would turn about 5100 rpm with either props

Jamie77905 04-20-2015 08:16 AM

I'm running 25p 3 blade mirage props and I'm getting about 76mph with a full tank of fuel and 2 people in it. I have been contemplating switching to a set of 4 blades !!!

gmgearhead454 04-20-2015 09:24 AM

What do you have for power Jamie?

Jamie77905 04-20-2015 09:42 AM

im around 500hp each with bravo 1 outdrives

payuppsucker 04-20-2015 12:13 PM

I've got a pair of 22 four blades. One of them needs a little work but you can try them for free if you'll pay shipping.

gmgearhead454 04-20-2015 12:16 PM

That would be awesome, how bad is the one that needs work, and how much would you want for them if they work for me?

The one that needs work isn't bad at all. I'm the one who knicked it. Kelly is a straight shooter.

payuppsucker 04-20-2015 12:25 PM

It took a pretty good lick. I'll try and get a pic of it. They'd be priced right due to the damage. If they don't work for you we'll work out something on the repair. If they do work I'd take $350 for the pair I suppose.

There ya go. I was just preparing you for the worst.

payuppsucker 04-20-2015 12:26 PM

Thanks brother.

gmgearhead454 04-20-2015 12:30 PM

That sounds perfect, thanks guys! You in need of any pairs of 3-blades I can hook you up with by chance, our just cash? I have 21+ Mirages, 23 non-plus Mirages, and also a single standard rotation 25 non plus, all 5 are in 100% perfect shape

payuppsucker 04-20-2015 12:33 PM

I've got all the props I need. Chris can confirm this as well. $350 cash would work for me. You can text me at 901-491-4500.

gmgearhead454 04-20-2015 12:34 PM

I hear ya, ok I'll give ya a shout later tonight if that's cool

Damn, seeing your location changed really makes it sink in.

payuppsucker 04-20-2015 12:35 PM

That'll work.

Yea, I was really looking forward to pickwick again with ya'll this year. Come to Texoma and you know you got a ride here. Just dropped the port engine back in yesterday and it's about 90% hooked up. Should be lake testing in the next week or two. I'll get ahold of you when I come back to TN to sign papers on the house.

gmgearhead454 04-20-2015 01:54 PM

Endeavor1, your 43' BT isn't the yellow & white GT that was up for sale a few months back was it?

Yellow and purple SC. Had pro-charged 750s in it when I bought it. NA power now. I borrowed the 22s from Kelly for the weekend while waiting for mine to show up. Accelerated like a sprint car to 65 then I hit the limiters. Lol. Was spinning 32s prior

gmgearhead454 04-20-2015 02:01 PM

Oh wow, lol nice. One day I'll be in a BT... that's the end goal, I searched my ASS of for one of the 32' BTs that have the windshield fairings like the 43 & 46s, but apparently those are like needles in a haystack

gmgearhead454 04-21-2015 07:35 PM

Payuppsucka, can you send me a pic of the props, mainly the damaged one, I'm gettin some cash together now so I can just buy em off of ya. If it's easier to text or email you can do that too, I know gettin pics on this site is sometimes a PITA. Nick @ 636-466-0677 or [email protected]

gmgearhead454 05-01-2015 06:41 PM

Finally got an update on the Scarabs performance! Been stuck at 60 this whole time, did a tune up on it and changed the fuel filters today, and ran 63.5 over and over again at 4900 with the 3 blade 21p Mirage + props with 2 people and over 1/4 fuel, ran smoother, started better, and motors were in sync so perfectly! just got some 22p 4-blades in the mail today so Im gonna try them out tomorrow and see how they do!

gmgearhead454 05-03-2015 10:00 AM

One last update if anyone is still following. Just put on my new Hydromotive 22p 4-blade quad-IV props, and with 2 people and 3/4 tank of gas, it runs 63.5 all day long at 4600 rpms. 64.0 at half tank and all the beer cans empty... lol. Also this was all on glass smooth water so I'm sure it would see a couple more with some chop. These props changed the whole character of the boat and I am NEVER goin back to 3 blades! It rockets up on plane with no cavitation what so ever, it has zero pourpose at any speed, and you can cruise all the way down to 32 mph at 2800 rpms and it holds on plane amazing. Cruises amazing at about 45mph at 3500 rpms, which is where most of my driving is. Best change I've made to the boat yet. I think it's just about ready for the whipple chargers next ;) after the boat wrap tho...
