If you do want to run both PS pumps, you would need to install a proprietary valve, I believe that's the term, in addition to a couple extra hoses. Really not much to hooking up both. I think some builders just order a bunch of complete motors instead of 1/2 being PS delete for simplified inventory control????, and just leave the dummy PS as is from Merc. Nice thing is at least you have a spare pump, hoses and cooler
Even my Baja cruiser has that extra PS setup. :) |
Using a "double" pump is a great idea. Yes,, you do need more hoses, pressure balancing etc. and a different valve assembly at the helm, but it's worth it. I got mine set up like that. Always have PS with any motor running. I normally "go out" (IE no wake zones, or in channels to get out to the deep waters) on port, and come "in" on starboard. Lowering my hours. :) No sense using twins just to put-put. lol

My boat was rigged with 2 pumps, with a simple "y" at the filter on the pressure side, and another on the return. 2 pumps, 2 coolers, 1 shared reservoir, no balance valves or anything works just fine
