Mike, this is how I clamped the pump into the vise. I actually clamped an aluminum bar into the vise, Then I used some square stock to block the outlet of the pump and used a C clamp to hold it all together on the aluminum bar. I didn't have the bolt hole completely covered with the bottom jaw of the C clamp and the oil was able to come out the bottom of the bolt hole. I was able to hang the pump in a cut jug of oil and spin it with a drill to build pressure and speed. It worked out pretty well And I was able to verify the operation of the pump at a high spreed before bolting it into the engine. If I were to do it again, I would make a dedicated block off plate for the top and bottom with an adjustable discharge valve and a pressure gauge.
