Fuel Consumption -- a justification
OK how many have heard from their "significant other" that that hunk of fiberglass is using way too much gas and it costs too much money to operate???
Come on - be honest!!! Here's what a friend of mine emailed me just today "Thanks George. Glad to hear that you are getting plenty of boating time. Sounds to me like a dedicated Dad that is putting in as many family boating hours as he can to make sure that everyone knows just how much he wants to spend time with them. The gas is just an investment in the family. " YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH THAT!!!!! 3pointstar |
I always say, 'You can't put a price on fun!!!'
And my wife agrees |
I don't worry about the price of fuel. That is the cheapest part of the hobby.

I'm single. No one fuc$in cares! :D
|
If fuel was all I had to pay for I'd be a happy camper
|
My wife says let's fill up the boat and go.

I have company truck for work. So I just say it's the money I would spend driving to work if I didn't have the company truck.
She is more mad about the random, "Hey I bought this for the boat." Then seeing the bill after its already ordered. |
I Never Mind spend 200-300 on gas for the boat . But I get Pissed every time I pay the 190.00 cable bill..

I have made so many great memories.... With my kids..friends...and girlfriend.... That alone is worth whatever fuel costs....
|
It`s no big deal till you have a 80`s heavy v bottom with 4 1050 carbs on blown 540`s making 1800+ hp and going to lunch costs $120 in fuel before the first drink . :D
My 25' A.T. $100 would fill it up, that was nice. |
Anytime the cost of fuel or running the boat comes up with the wife, I just remind her about what she spends on shoes, clothes and handbags and the conversation is over before it starts..

160 gallon tank $4.50 a gallon on the river = Priceless 😎. I can burn 100 gallons a weekend easy and not really go to far. Boating ain't a cheap hobby. If your lucky a friend will bring a case of beer and feel they are contributing a lot😁

A $190 cable bill??? Why? What on TV is worth that much?
Padraig |
Another reason why I couldn't move down south. I'd spend 5-6 times as much on gas and I'd probably work less. Loool.
But, I had 3 sleds (snowmobiles) to keep fuel'd up. That wasactually worse our big snow winter years back...happened same time fuel on the street was well in the $4 gallon. For those who don't know, sleds get bad gas mileage.....unless you have an Etec Ski Don't. LOL. |

Chris Isn't it funny back in the day -- when we had 9 planets we had a phone on the wall-- the phone company would have to have wires, wire poles, operators, service techs and not to mention publishing a phone book that could choke a horse-- and our bill -- about $25.00/month. So today we have only 8 planets, cell phones that don't have the wires to each house, a few towers here and there and a phone book that you can put in your shirt pocket -- that's about it and our bill is $200.00/month Go figure!! |

Cable and phone bills are not what keep me up at night. Figuring out how to put two kids through college without putting me in the poorhouse is what I worry about. That will take a chunk out of your gas budget! |

I never cared much about putting gas in the boat, as the fun always justified it. Putting gas in the truck to get there would make me cringe a bit.
