Fogging for winter

Whats the best way to fog a MPI engine?

No, I'm not taking it to San Francisco

I've done it two ways

I have winterized the MPI's two ways. First was to run the motor off a separate tank with a mix of gasoline, sabilizer, and fog oil mixed. It takes a while to run it thru the system though.

Another way is to add fogging oil to the fuel pump housing. There is an access hole on the top of it.

Don't spray fogging oil thru the butterflies, because it puddles in the intake. When you shut the motor down it can drain into the cylinders and hydralock it when it comes time to start it up in the spring.

Check with your Mercruiser dealer as there is a new procedure on winterizing MPI motors.

Hey Rick, just move down here to Texas. The winter down-time is so short, there`s really no need to fog it. But you know, I have been wondering how you would do it on a MPI.

the boatered.com site suggests mixing 2-stroke oil into the fuel water seperator and running it till the exhaust gets smoky. Seems simple enough

I used the 2-stroke oil like that last year, piece of cake.

Ran boat up to temp, killed it. Drained the block, hooked the muffs to the antifreeze bucket, filled the fuel water separator half full of 2-stroke oil/half fuel/shot of Heat, ran till emptied anitfreeze bucket.

It didn't take long, but it's a hectic few minutes. Want to do it all before engine cools and closes the thermostat.

Merc Recomends filling the fuel filter with fuel stabalizer and running the engine for at least 1 min not more than 2 min on EFI engines. This is so the injectors don't stick over the winter when the gas evaporates the detergent in the gas is apearantly like Glue. I don't know if it happens over 1 winter but happened to me on one that sat 1 1/2 years 8 injectors all stuck.
