New Production Small Block
 

So merc states that GM stated it would no longer be producing the old small blocks used for years so they went in house to make their own.
Today I saw this. So what gives? Could this be marinized and dropped in a boat. Would the cam work? I know it has alum heads and would require closed cooling and a marine carb but it looks promising.

WHY???? GM performance already has several versions of LS smallblock platform motors in higher horsepower configurations set up and marketed for marine use...

Blue: Yup, most GMPP engines can be dropped in. If you go closed cooling, then there is no worries on the inside of aluminum components and if the head gaskets are steel or stainless steel.

That cam is fine. A 400hp small block will be better off with a performance exhaust.

I can pretty much answer that a Performer RPm or etc high rise dual plane will prove better on the water for most boats. Remember, it's a small cid engine.

The reason for the single plane is that many small circle tracks use these ZZ series motors in their 'rules racing' for some classes.

that motor won't see 5800rpm w/ any prop bigger than a 19 pitch.

I dont have any particular boat in mind. All my boats are running perfect right now and will not replace till they blow. I do have this older 25 ft Cabin cruiser that has a 5.0 in it. This would be a great replacement. I dont really care about the RPM's. I like the flat torque curve.. 400ft lbs from 3200 on. As for the LS platform. I think they are great but aftermarket bolt on's like water pumps for marine use are scarce. It does look like the exhaust for marine is available for the LS. I wonder if there are any motor mounts for the LS that will bolt up to Small Block mounting points in a boat. Back to the main question. Why does merc say GM is not making blocks anymore. Where did GM get the block for this thing?

and no fat chicks,,maybe some fountain skanks will work.
