Bottom of the boat
 

We have a 1980 Formula 302, it was left in the water for some time. Is there a chemical to remove the gunk off of the bottom or would steam cleaning work, thanks.......by the way... this is a great forum

It sounds like your going to have to acid wash it first...one over the counter brand is called," On and Off"....its available from West Marine, spray it on scrub some with brush and rinse off with hose....Fred

Yup the ON/OFF from either West or Boat US works killer for this problem. :D:D

Its muratic acid I believe. Wear gloves!!! A filter mask might not be a bad idea either it smells kind fo funky. Spray it on wait abotu 30 seconds adn sponge off eth area an dit will be squeakey clean.

But I was told to mix it one part acid to three parts water.

I've never done this myself, maybe I'll learn something new.

Pressure wash the thick furry stuff off first. Then use on/off, full strength probably in your case. Rinse well... particularly the trailer and drives (if applicable).

Presssure wash it first to get as much off as you can. Then a couple gallons ($2-$3/gallon) of muratic acid. Get a pump garden sprayer to spray it on. Use it straight without diluting for the best results. Stay upwind of where you're applying it. The fumes are nasty. Rinse VERY well when you're done, especially the trailer.

Word of caution --- DO NOT use any acid or acid based product over a galvanized trailer. It removes the galvanize instantly and you will have an ugly, rusty trailer. Found that one out the hard way. --- Jer
