Latham Power Steering Reservoir
 

Does anyone know of a replacement for the plastic oil reservoir that sits on top of the stock power steering reservoir. Mine is leaking and I don't have a suitable place to mount the newer unit from Latham. Besides it's $400.

Are you speaking of the blue topped/clear side canister for the steering reservoir? I would think you could find new o-rings to put in the old unit....... It appears to be rebuildable, isn't it????
(am I looking for future trouble now???) My Formula is a '97 312.... yours is what?:confused:

Mine is a 97 312 also with Whipplecharged 454's. The reservoir I'm talking about is black plastic and sits on top of the stock PS pump.

Yours is different then. Mine is the Latham model with anodized aluminum top & bottom & has clamping screws in it w/o-rings. So I guess this must be the $400.00 version!! Mine is also seperate from the pump & connected with hoses and a LARGE Latham billet filter also. It mounts to a bracket on the starboard side of the starboard engine....

Mine is apparently the older style. I don't have room to mount the newer style because of the Whipples.

PS Did you get your transducer mounted yet?

Dave check out the Power Steering for 500 bucks there may be some solutions for you in there. One guy got his stuff from a speed shop :D:D

Just something to think about
Do you have to have one? I have been running mine Latham dual ram setup for a year with just the fluid in the PS pump. Stays cool and not a drop of fluid anywhere! I have to wonder the true purpose of the add on resevoir. Are they still necessary on todays systems? Will I have trouble someday? I doubt it;)

On my last boat, no reservoir was needed either. I believe it has to do with the total volume of fluid required in the system. A filter should also be used.

Dave, are you running the stock exhast? If so, a bracket can be made to hold it from the riser bolts or the throttle cable bracket bolts. Also a braket could be fabricated from the bolt holes above your steering pump. A whipple is pretty big, but manageable. Another reason a PC is good!!:) Just kidding!! It is also not required to be mounted to the engine, just be mounted higher than the pump reservoir. Mount it remotely!:)
