Something pointed out to me by a friend who spent some time on the dyno with his headers was that the engines made more power with the headers being somewhat hot over being cool. He actually reduced the water flow to the headers to get some more heat into them. We're talking big blower motors though. Way above 650-700 hp

If wet, reducing the amt of water being introduced into the exhaust is more likely a good amt of the power increase. People reported this way back with Gill's. |

I`ve found it depends on how long the tail is .. My STEROID headers the collector was so far back there was a short tail and it reverted. The collector would be soaking wet... worse with mufflers closed. Had to buy a bunch new valves this year due to pitting from reversion. The current SM Gen 3 have a long tail and no issues whatsoever.

Obviously, water introduction design, muffler design, can keep too much water in that area too. As an example, I plugged all the 525EFI specs into Pipemax and here is what was reported. PF Marine was first who design and made the aluminum manifolds then worked a deal with KE that really never took off as planned, years after sat idle until Diamond currently is offering the past X amount of years.
With that said I just talked to the guy in person that helped with all the dyno testing from day one with the original PF Marine designs. They were equaled with the numbers on the dyno to best marine true header on the market at that time frame. |
