Hydraulic Steering Reservoir
 

I'm about to start installing a full latham hydraulic steering system on my 292 SR-1, the only thing that I am lacking right now is the steering reservoir. I'm not going to pay the outrageous prices that CP Performance wants, so I'm curious if this would work? It's fully baffled and seems to be everything that I would need. opinions?

After the air is bled out of the system you usually don't need the reservoir. I don't have one on mine.

So I can just run without it? What is the purpose of it? If I run without the reservoir, do I still need to modify the the stock pump top? By that I mean add the imco- cap for a return line?

Imco told me I did not need one if only using 1 pump . I did not change the power steering cap and it works find.

I don't have one. Fluid level doesn't move. I think with a single ram it is needed.

When you are bleeding the air out have someone watch the fluid level Don't add to the full mark at first or it might overflow. Add some oil and turn the wheel, don't let the oil level drop to the point where the internal cast iron pump is uncovered looking down inside the top. Keep adding oil to keep the level above that point so it doesn't suck in air. If you put too much oil in until all of the air is bled out it will overflow.

I bought the correct $$$$ pump from AGR(they make the marine pumps) and I have run without one for 3 years now, works great dual ram, am running GM high performance fluid as thats what hardin speced...
