Fuel Injection????
 

Greetings,

I'm going to be building a 350 engine for my boat over the
winter and was considering buying the components and
going with fuel injection over carburation.

My questions are:

Is it worth the expense?

What system? Mercruiser's systems or from an aftermarket
component maker like the accel or edelbrock multiport systems?

Should I look at buying used such as this

I don't remember the maker of the FI system for Merc but all I can say is DO NOT BUY IT.

That is old technology and it does not even come with the computer. Keep looking for a newer EFI or go with a Holley 4 injector TBI system.

While fuel injection works real well, I feel that if I were building a motor from scratch as you are, I would prefer the ease of tuning associated with a carb. I am not saying that you can't get an injection system to work properly, but it takes alot more than getting a carb jetted correctly.

If you wanted to stay with stock power, then a Mecruiser system would be the way to go. Personally, I don't think that you can beat the reliablity of a factory Mercuiser injection system. Once yuo start modifying the motor for more power, the Merc. injection ECU needs to be re-calibrated which can lead to problems.

Hmmm.... tough decision. I guess if it were me, I'd go with a carb because of the reasons listed above. On the other hand, if you were going to buy a complete engine package and have it dropped in, the EFI would be my choice (as a matter of fact, it WAS my choice last year). CM454mag pegged it.
