Power Steering Fittings/Hose Question

OK, so I am down to the final steps of rigging on my LSX swap into my Checkmate. Unfortunately, when I sold the complete 454 out of the boat. I left the power steering lines on the pump with the motor. Being that stock line lengths won't work and I'm 99% sure that the fittings on my power steering pump are different than a Merc's, I'm going to have to have some hoses made. My main question is, what are the threads on the fittings that go into the steering rack? My boat is a 98 and the Bravo One is the stock one that came on the boat if that makes any difference. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Which steering actuator do you have, Saganaw (external metal hoses) or Brazilian? If it is the Saganaw, forget about hoses being made (I do have a set for this one I will give you). The Brazilian uses a metric thread with an "O" ring on the fitting, again I had no luck finding this fitting also.

This will help, here is a pic of my steering ram. To me it looks like the Brazilian and I'm pretty sure it uses o-rings.

Yes, Brazilian, newer style hoses. Metric with O rings, again I went to several commercial hose vendor/fabricators and was unable to get any made.

Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if something like this won't work to adapt it over to standard threads? It might be worth the $16 to see.

If they work that would be great. Good Luck

You're on the right track, can you get a metric screw in there to verify the thread?
These Earl's adapters will get you to a JIC/AN that your hose vendor can adapt to with ease.

just get a set for what you had, the pump fitting should be the same, saginaw pump, the return is just a 3/8 slip on, make sure you use a P/S cooler

I'm not using the stock LS pump and with the location of my PS pump, the hoses will be longer than stock. As far as a cooler goes I have a 24" x 3" diameter oil cooler w/thermostat and a PS cooler. So I should be good as long as I get the right fittings. Which I should be able to do.

what pump are you running ? still location should be close enough for a factory line to reach, the return you can buy bulk p/s hose for that(don't use fuel line) to make whatever run you need, you can contact AGR they build the pumps for a lot of custom deals and probably have the fittings

Cool, I 'll check out AGR. Thanks!!
