K&E 2 pc valve covers leaking all the time

I have these KE 2 piece valve covers nearly 900 bucs they have leaked since new I called them they say for another 500 bucs I can buy there new billets lower rails. Has anyone had same problems?? Is there a cheaper fix the leak is so slow I figure out if nits the lower plate or cover it self?I love to be able to lash valves without exhaust removal but it looks totally ridiculous with all the oil in the bilge. I will not pay them ANOTHER 500.00 bucs on a promise that they wont leak. Any feedback would help

I have been told that the reason they leak is that when You bolt down the base it warps and that makes the upper half seal leak. If there was a way to seal the base to the head without any warping then the seal may not leak.

I have never heard of anybody who did not have problems with them leaking.

mine haven't leaked in years.

Mine have never leaked but they were bought before Keith sold the business. How old are these? Did you buy them new or used? If you bought them new, call CP and maybe they will help you.

I understand now if the base is warping I noticed that the rubber gasket is compressed on the edges close to the cover bolts but the middle of the gasket is not compressed. But Cover have o-rings also?? I just cant send another 500 bucs with a claim to fame fix. Does anyone else have these type of 2 piece cover maybe just change whole brand . I have a 33 eliminator with 1300s in it EFI whipples ect. just looks like a Fred Sanford boat when I pull into the Bar and everyone wants to see the engines I usually stop a ways out, open hatch wipe off excess. LOL

They SUCK !!!!!
I have 4 sets for sale lol

horsepower1 02-29-2016 08:22 PM

I've only dealt with one set about 5 yrs ago but I remember it was really difficult to get the o-rings to fit right. I ended up using silicone grease and they finally went into their grooves but it was a battle. Since then they have not leaked a drop.

cartersfly 03-02-2016 05:13 PM

I will try some more grease but I tryed that a couple of times I am wondering if there leaking between the head and lower base panel not the cover its self?? They leak so slow and constant I just cant find eaxcutly where the oil is coming from Jim

also,w/ the o-rings,try to get betw the o-ring and the valve cover w/ a pick and go around a couple of times.this should untwist the o-ring and help it go in properly.as your turning the nuts down, tap lightly side to side and top and bottom repeatedly as you tighten up the nuts,at 1 point the cover should just pop in.

Silicone grease is also what I was using. It was the ford brake grease. Very thick.

Can you give more information. . Works good, I want to hear they work great before I buy

Mine used to leak like crazy. I ground the bases down in the back corner so they won't pool oil, and they haven't leaked since. I think this is similar to the mod they made to the new ones. Actually, I think they drilled them so oil would drain back.

You still have to pay attention to the o-ring, and make sure they seat properly when you are tightening them, but mine work fine now.
