flywheel and balancer?
I am in the process of gathering up parts to finish m 97 gen vi 454. I went with a 6.385 rod and a 4.250 forged crank. I have everything but the a balancer and flywheel that will work with my internally balance crank. I have looked through old threads trying to find my answer but cant seem to find the answer. My question is where do i find a internal balance balancer and a internal balancer flywheel for a 97 gen vi 454. The started bolts to the block if that makes a different. Also what brand balancer works best.

Jegs should have whatever you need. I have used a Fluidampr for 20 years now with no problems.

I have a neutral balanced flywheel I'm looking to get rid of. It is a factory mercury flywheel that has been neutral balanced. Perfect condition.

CnCmotorsports.......great guys to work with, and someone really answers the phone

or another option,gm427 balancer is neutral balanced(you can look that one up in the catalogs) then source a nodular iron neutral balanced flywheel.

the 2 piece flywheel still fits the 1 piece crank. you can use any 2 piece 350 or 396-427 neutral flywheel. I would recommend getting them balanced with the rotating assembly.

Shouldnt make a diff. They dont have torque converters...

Yes it can. With a HD driveplate the center will bottom out on a normal flywheel.
Yes we all know the don't have a converter |
if it uses a rear mount starter it needs a different flywheel or it will not properly line up with the starter and it will chew the teeth up.ask me how i know this, lol.

Or you can heat the ring and move it to the rear of the flywheel as I did

It is a bravo. The boat is a 97 scarab 22

Also you (the OP) may want to check with you balancer (you have to have the motor balanced) on what flywheel you should use. Just because the crank is internal balance you are adding longer rods and I assume shorter pistons and may throw the balance off by a mile. Just an example I stroked a 427 Tall block (all internal) and had to use 454 flywheel and balancer (external weight) lightened up some. It was a lot cheaper then them adding heavy metal by a mile. Also IMHO you should not use a fluid balancer because you are having everything balanced and a fluid damper is not a static weight. |

Everything has to be balanced as a unit. Your machine shop should be able to tell you exactly what you need. I have built 496 with internally balance crank and the machine shop milled the weights off my external balance 454 flywheel. Good luck. That should make that boat fly.
