Will XR drive hold up?
This is my first post to OSO so "Hi" to all. I am a regular over at Hotboat. I have a 01 Ultra 247XS with the HP500EFI and XZ drive. I am ready to cross the line and get a Whipple Supercharger installed but worry my drive will not be able to handle it. Part of my installation will be upgrading to the XR upper gears, the other side of my external steering and the charger. It would help greatly to hear real life stories from all of you.
Thanks in advance, Jeff aka NashvilleBound

Have had XZ drive & no problems to date. Motor now is 750???+HP, 540 BBC procharged. I have come to the conclusion there is no good answer if drive will hold up. Only one sure way. Try it.

TurboJack: Good to hear. It would be nice to save the $2000 for the gear change. I think I will be 700-750hp, so its hard to say. I would like to know what the HPs hp is on the water, NOT under lab conditions. From what I see and hear, 750 is the fine line.
Continued luck, NB

Hey NashvilleBound,
Check out www.billetmarine.com I've talked to this guy before and he seems to know Bravo 1's pretty good.

Have XR behind a ProCharged 502 @ 700+hp. Good luck so far but the Whipple seems to make more low end torque than the PC so it may be a bit harder on the drive depending on your prop pitch. I spin a 30 but the torque comes in at @ 3500. Keep a limp wrist down low and it will live!

NashvilleBound,
Welcome to the board!! You will like it here! Lots of experience to learn from. Like Turbo Jack said.. try it and keep an eye on drive temps regular fluid changes..etc. I will know more about the XR gears when I pull mine down this winter. We just had a discussion on XR grears in the Tech Q&A section. Do a search for XR and see a lot come up to surface.
Scarab26,
How are you doing?? Did you ever find out what happend to your oil psi? And have you heard anything of L&L??? I am going to move my cam this week and hope for the best.. I will let you know what happens..

Dick: I will do the search, thanks. I am about as anal as it comes when it comes to service. I log everything....you get it....its painful.
Baja: I have already told myself, "self, easy on, easy off". Its only when I answered myself that I knew I should ask others
26Scarab: I will check out the site and call him tomorrow.
Thanks for the welcome this site has been a wealth of information already.
