I saw that on some generic PDF's. I was hoping that it was doable in this case.

I think all you have to do is change the location of the drain on the V4 to 5 o'clock location

The charger drain line , when I was researching these a couple years ago that seemed to be a concern of some that if it pukes the innerds end up in the pan.

I get what you are trying to say , but the only thing the oil is doing is cooling and oiling the bearing and if they are coming apart you are going to have more problems than trash in your oil plus the drain line is not that big so the trash will be small

some marine pans have a plug in the pan on #1 cyl side, mine does, what are you using now EFI or carb, EFI with blower going to be tricky at best with the merc, not saying can't be done.

Yup, I was psyched way back when when installing an ATI SC in boat with a 502MPI when I noticed the plug, which I of course used as a drain for the SC.

Doing very quick research, looks like Merc #845668T (one piece rear main) has it.
Also appears an aftmk't copy has it too: http://www.michiganmotorz.com/74l-82...an-p-4052.html
Click pic, then click that to go thru the photos and you'll see the plug too.

That would be sweet! I'll take a look at it later today.

This is the EFI that I was looking at. It's already set up for a blow-through situation.

No luck on the oil pan. It'll have to dump into the valve cover.

I have a v4 on a 500efi. the earlier manuals said into the pan with an option to go into the valve cover. the later versions only say into valve cover. The 502 vortech manual I have says into the pan as option 1 and then valve cover. Same as the old 500efi manual. I think they found that the oil backed up in the hose when attached to the pan, so the later manuals are into the valve cover only. I did mine into the pan and I was getting some residue into the blower horn. I am going to change to into the valve cover.

Started getting things jigged up, and the unit is cramping the water filler neck. How is this situation normally resolved?

Sano.

It looks like you went with a crossover instead of the water pump?
