Default Anodes. What material do I need for freshwater ??

What material do I need to use for fresh water ? Choices are Aluminum, magnesium or Zinc. My guess would be Zinc ??

Instead of me typing it all out here is what I have used on 1000's of boats thru out many years. IMO the best on the market and the info on what to use by the pro's. They have good info for all so click on related links as well.

Merc Aluminum anodes are fine in fresh water. I take care of a few boats that sit at the dock every year for beginning of June through September. one of them is an 86 and the other a 94, and their original outdrives look fine. I replace all anodes when necessary which is usually 3-4 years or so.

Mags dissolve much faster...so watch them !

Oh, and if you use MAgs, do not ever drop the boat in salt water. The aluminums work in both fresh and salt.

BTW, Zinc is only for salt water. Aluminum can be used in fresh and/or salt. Mag for fresh only.
