Motor Mount Options
 

I have a small block where it has the motor mounts on top of the stringers, I'm getting ready to do some engine bay updates and was wondering if there's something better. The reason for this is, I don't care for the lag screw down into the stringer, it's not rotted, the screws are tight anyway,,,, but just wondering.
I thought of an aluminum or stainless "U" shaped cap that could be through bolted or something like that.
Or am I over thinking it??

You don't have the kind of torque that's going to rip a Stringer apart. And a lot of the force holding the engine in place is the 2 rear mount bolts to the transom. If the spacing was different so that the mount could sit inboard or outboard of the Stringer you could put an L bracket there. But since you're straight on top of the Stringer bolted down, you could put an aluminum shoe over it. But it's not really going to help much because there's no real way to bolt it through from underneath without the bolt head sitting underneath on the stringer. If you removed the lag bolts from the Stringer, I would put a good squirt of some kind of sealant down in there when you bolt them back in.

I was thinking of the shoe over it and notching out a section of the stringer and putting a slide plate with the nuts on it for adjustment. But then there would be horizontal holes in the stringer so 6 of 1 and half dozen of the other I guess. Also it's a healthy 383.

You could do an offshore style mount, with angle brackets to the stringers, like most offshore boats have

This mount makes taking in engines in and out really pretty easy with only 2 vertical bolts per corner. We use a 30-36" extension with a 1/2" breaker bar and the other holds with wrench on the nut. Tightening the bolts is 20-30 is min engine. Try and be the the guy with with the breaker bar😎

if you really wanted to do it, you could put a piece of angle both sides of the stringer facing out. set them up about a half inch above top of stringer. now you can bolt a plate on them with the mount already bolted to the plate with the bolt heads just clearing top of stringer. but not necessary...
