Brand new quick fuel carbs engines won't run
I just put 2 new quick fuel 850 carbs on. Neither engine will run. Super rich, can get it to run at 1500 but super smokey unburned fuel.
Fuel level middle of sight glass, idle screw closed, 1 turn, 1/2 turn doesn't matter. Standard mechanical fuel pumps. These motor's ran great with 800 holleys. I'm gonna call them tommorrow but I'm not happy right now. Am I missing something? |
Ok, I think I figured it out, carbs were too tight to manifold. They were just the tightness I've always snugged carbs. Must have warped the throttle plates a bit. There is a gasket, throttle cable holder, gasket, spacer, gasket, carb, so plenty of squish room to warp it.
I loosened them and just tightened them easily in a criss cross pattern. Just in the driveway the sound good and the throttle response is so crisp now. |
Also Quick Fuel carbs like 6 1/2 pounds fuel pressure, you might need a fuel regulator.

Probably warped it so bad it created a vacuum leak.

Was gonna say both mine were perfect running

Some base gaskets suk...especially paper ones.
I exclusively use,and have been for over 25 years, for 4150/4160 carbs Mr Gasket 55 (4 hole) and Mr Gasket 54 (open). I get same series for all other carbs too. http://www.summitracing.com/search/b...rder=Ascending These use to be under $3.00 each from Summit until recently.Don't know what happened. |
These came with the thicker blue non stick style gasket so I used those. I've never had that happen before either. I did jump around while tightening too and they weren't super torqued down or anything.
