sierra extreme lower shift cable - know issues? mine broke
A few weeks ago I lost the ability to shift into F on my Fountain (Bravo 1, LH rotation prop). I had just installed the Sierra extreme lower cable, and while I thought I adjusted it per the manual (I have the tools) obviously something wasn't right. When I got home I pulled the drive and set up the cable again. This time the barrel nut went to the extreme of it's travel, but once reassembled the drive went into F and R perfectly.
Fast forward to today, I lost forward again and the drive was stuck in reverse. I popped the hatch and disassembled the lower cable to find this: http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...sbqfjvaxe.jpeg The crimp didn't hold and the solid portion separated from the stranded portion of the inner cable. Looking back, the first time I lost F, it was because the cable slid in the crimp. Is this a know issue with these cores? I'm not sure at this point if I can get a replacement core from Sierra or that I'd trust it. The alternative is going back to the merc cable and replacing both the inner and outer cables. Ryan |
I don't use Sierra for anything critical. Their trim limit switches are garbage and I have to pull the drive again to replace them with merc units.

you might want to remove the upper cap on your bravo and see if the detent check ball/spring assembly need to be greased.
