I had a nice convo with Allen when I called. I was hoping he could help me diagnose an issue with my Crane box as the engineer there designed the Crane box as well.

Same. Holy cow.

But it seems like the company is in good standing.

The owner Allen seems to be a really good guy, and stands behind his products

Link doesn't work.

Daytona sensors is doing well - I talked to them in person in Dec 2015 and few times since.

I agree with using anything form them. They are good people and really care about their products.

OK, glad I found this thread. I had MSD 6420 boxes (red non-marine) on my blower motors, had a box conveniently cracking up on me on the 3rd of july, luckily found a guy with a used MSD 6m2 6460 marine box a mile from where I was staying and was back on the water the next day. I call MSD as the 6420 boxes are NLA, they tell me the 6425 supercedes it, it is digital with rotary switch rev limiters. I ordered one, problem is it is not fully potted but MSD has no problem advertising the weatherproof connector on the bottom of it. Now I am second guessing putting this on. For one it is wider than my nice stainless bracket (as was the original) and was only held on by 2 bolts....so, I look into the MSD marine box as it will fit my bracket, is weathertite, potted and has rev limit modules. Problem is it comes with 5000, 6000, and 8000 modules and my motors make peak HP at 6100, no big deal I will just buy the rpm modules...summit doesnt carry them, neither does Jegs, I did find them for $70 each plus shipping here:

http://lightningmotorsports.com/stor...?itemid=106021

So, $440 a side

OR...I could go with the 6ALN 6430 with standard pils (cheap) for rev limiter, fully potted, tinned wires and sealed connectors for $334. What is the advantage difference between this and the marine? Other than the marine limiter modules may be NLA?

MILD THUNDER 07-15-2016 12:59 PM

I wouldnt go with any of those. If you want msd, the 6530 is programmable, and around 375.

The daytona boxes, are marine ,programmable, and offer a ton of features. They are a bit more money, but also come with coil too.

If you want a basic box, reliable no frills except built in rev limiter, the crane 6000-6440 worked well for me. Never had an issue with them . Fully potted. Around 250 bucks.

Actually, just checked. Summit has them on sale, the crane boxes that is. 199 bucks, its a steal. Does everything the msd "marine box" does , except fail.

I have a failed Crane marine box with under 10 hrs on it, so unfortunately it does happen.

I replaced both boxes and coils with the Daytona Sensors. Like you mentioned tons of features compared to the others. I hoped the mounting points would be the same from Crane to Daytona but of course nothing was the same. The Daytona box has a cool anti stall feature as well. Could've used that with the last engines.
