as you know I had almost the same setup, ran for 4 seasons, never built any oil temp until I redid using a canton thermostat and worked like a champ after that, stayed just above 200, and yes you want to keep engine temp cold

The more I research this the less I worry. It does take some running at 3500 rpm to put some temp in the oil but I see where guys running no oil cooler are experiencing the same situation. I run the St, Clair River a lot which is very cold even in the middle of summer. I do have the Oil thermostat form CP Performance and it seems to work well. I guess you just have to do a little cruising to get the heat into the oil before you really get into it. I don't think I want to run the engine any warmer just to get the oil up to temp quicker.
