Oil Filter Interchangeability

Does anyone know the comparable Fram or other quality brand oil filter number that replaces the standard remote mounted Mercruiser oil filter? I have 330hp -454's and have been using the Mercruiser filters, but at 8 bucks a pop. I think the Frams are as good or better at half the price. Thanks.

Get the AC Delco ones.....i believe the number is PF35 if you want the synthetic one i think its the PF35L :D thats what i've been useing on my 454's

You can also use an AC Delco Pf1218 instead of the PF35 or PF35L. The 1218 has an anti-flowback valve in it.

I run Fram HP4 racing filter but they also run 7- 9 dollars.

Fram

I think the Fram number is PH30?

Sydwayz 09-30-2002 11:53 PM

DON'T DO IT.
Don't get FRAMS. Do a search on this subject, in the Tech Forum. You will see as many opinions as there are wolr religeons, and as much controversy.

I ONLY trust the Napa/Wix Racing Filter. Mobil 1 would be second.

Filter xref...

Besides the merc filter, I have used these on my 454mag, in order of preference...

Wix 51061
AC Delco pf35
fram ph13

I seem to show slightly better oil pressure with the wix, although it could just be my imagination.

I also have noted that motorcraft fl12 will work, but I haven't tried it personally.

This is purely ancedotal but usually I use purolator + or quakerstate QS13 (as it is a purolator inside just painted green and cheaper). So like I am buying mobil1 15-50 at wallymart and they have fram and I don't have a filter and don't wanna make another trip so i buy a FRAM PH13. Oil temp was 5 degrees hotter, 245 versus 240, on a long wot run,,several different days , so temp/humidity conditions. Switched back to a QS temp went back to 240. Maybe it had a slight restriction, maybe a general problem with all fram filters, maybe I just got a marginal filter, maybe my dog pee'ed in it when I wasn't looking :D but Im staying with QS .

DON'T USE A FRAM, they suck.

If you have the room, I use an Amsoil EAO76, it's 7.87" tall. It is certainly more then $8, but I run Amsoil synthetic oil two seasons.

thirdchildhood 02-08-2011 02:35 PM

I use the Wix racing filter # 51060R They are $11.29 at the local Napa.

I have also read bad things about Fram.

thirdchildhood 02-08-2011 02:40 PM

HOLD EVERYTHING!....This thread is 9 years old....WTF?

Hey, sailheli, do you have some special interest in pushing "Baldwin Filters?" Just wondering....

Fram is the worst filter money can buy. When it comes to a filter, you get what you pay for!

ezstriper 02-09-2011 07:11 AM

some remote adpters use ford filters and not GM's

motorz 02-09-2011 03:47 PM

WIX is the best filter.
