496 Rockers
Broke a rocker arm in my 496mag over the weekend. Anybody know if there are roller rockers out there that will fit under the stock valve covers?
|
Raylar has them.

+1
They are exact fit and you can use the stock valve covers. 100% |
Thanks guys. Any other options out there?

I am going back about 5 years since I rebuilt mine but it was something like this...
Its not the roller rockers that are the problem, its the stud size and the nuts. The studs are metric and you need the correct studs so the correct nuts bottom out and give you the correct valve lash. If you upgrade the studs then you have to use standard roller rocker adjusting nuts. THEN the covers wont fit. So, after you buy all that stuff, the $500 for Raylar is a fair price. I think (think) somebody somewhere had some sort of nuts that were cut down or shorter, but I cant remember where I read it. Check with a guy on OSO named MER Performance - he did a few 496's a while back and his builds sounded really good. |

Thanks guys. I would be fine just putting a new set of oem rockets on but they are almost as much as a set from raylar. Not looking for hp gains just want durability. Guess I will get both with raylar.

Why did the rocker arm break ? Is this common at all on these motors ?
|
No idea, the seat for the push rod broke out and the push rod just went through. Oil pressure has always been good and there was no sign of excessive heat. The motor has 380hrs and I do run it pretty hard.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/scc-scp4014 I have these, they are supposed to fit. I DID NOT have the time to install them before my trip so I do not know if they do fit or not. Good Luck. |
