Bmax drives input

Looking at purchasing a 2004 sonic 358 Pokémon addition that Features TWIN 650HP/500 CI MERCURY RACING ENGINES WITH WEIAND SUPER CHARGERS AND INTER COOLERS. It has the BMax drives and I'm not to familiar with them. Just looking for some information and input on them. Are they reliable, and are they good drives?

Call the Bravo shop, they have & still make everything for them. My boat I've had for 2 years has them on it. Make sure if they have been gone thru that it was by someone who is familiar with them.

I've never seen a Pokémon edition? Even more surprised that my auto correct already new how to spell it! ;-)

I wouldn't worry about the drives any more then a used bravo, if anything they are better then most XR based drives. If you were buying new then maybe look into other options.

They are essentially just like an XR, the gears are just 3-4 times the size as an XR's. Also very to hard to steal, front cap & tie bar have to be removed to pull the drive off.

The upper gears are stronger, the lower is basically the same as an XR and uses the JUNK merc XR gears.

I have a BMAX on my boat. I have roughly 8-900hp. Previous owner I think bought the drive used but unsure. It certainly does look older. I have had it 3 seasons and previous owner ran it 3 seasons as well I believe. He had 930 hp. I never had a problem except my shifter cable coming in done and it getting stuck in forward. Just pulled the drive and screwed it back together. It is a a pain to pull off and it's heavy but I have had great luck with it. It has an imco lower unit

Bmax is a slow drive, but holds good power.

New B Max currerntly how much slower than a Bravo XR apples to apples ? Anyone know for sure without a guess ? Thanks

Bup, I asked the question in another thread and there was someone that had before and after and said he lost 2 to 3 mph

I researched the SCX vs bmax a few years ago, EVERYONE I know lost speed with the SCX. (plus their customer service and warranty work is atrocious). I talked with john at the bravo shop, he said if HE set the drive up you won't lose any speed. We changed the gear ratio slightly from 1.36 to 1.38, I run the bmax upper and the IMCO lower. I didn't lose any speed at all. I run 850+ on a 28' Nordic, went low 90's before, goes low 90's now.

The bmax is nothing like the XR, the case is literally twice as wide as an XR case and houses enormous helical cut gears. (it retains the merc cone clutch for shifting, however). Plenty of people running 1000+ with them.

Its kinda ugly, where the SCX is a nicer looking piece imo. I wanted to go fast though, not look cool at the boat ramp.
