best hole shot Trim tab position
 
I am looking for the best hole shot I can get and I am wondering how many people put there tabs down for the hole shot. If so, how far and how quickly do you raise them?

It seems to me that using full down tabs would get the nose down quicker but the problem is that I need a third hand to work the tab switch to even test the theory (left hand on wheel and right hand already hitting the trim up switch).

If I receive positive results from OSO I thought that I would rig a switch to auto trim tab retractor (https://www.amazon.com/Bennett-Marin.../dp/B0013D21DW). The thought was I would put tabs down (as well as drive) and hit the throttle, work the drive trim and then hit the retractor button at the correct time.

I have a 24' 4500 lbs boat - 425 HP, Bravo 1, out-drive and labbed 24P Bravo prop. My boat already leaves pretty hard, I can more or less nail the throttle with little/no cavitation

Please share your input.

I put my tabs all the way down, it planes best that way. Once it lays over, I raise the tabs. Ive had boats that plane fine without tab. Depends on the boat and setup.

I cant see a 24 ft 4500lb boat with a 425hp motor needing tabs to even help plane. Unless you have a really high x dim. You need to put some pics of your boat on here. Are you having trouble with bow rise for extended period or something like that?

I have a single 23' boat. It doesn't need tabs but I use them to keep the extra torque off the out drive. Tabs full down until the boat planes and the rim stars rising. Then I Rais the tabs. Once they are up I adjust my trim and rpm to desired speed and ride

My boat does not "require" me to use tabs to get on a plane..... As stated in my original post I am able to get on plane with ease and able to more or less nail the throttle without cavatation and currently the bow is down within 4-5 seconds, however, it is always nice to get a jump on someone out of the hole before spanking them on top end..... If I can shave a second or two by using the tabs, I see no reason not to?
In theory the faster you can get the bow down the quicker you would be out of the hole (am I wrong in my theory?). Am I the only one that has ever thought of trying this? The part is pretty cheap and it would be easy to wire, I just wanted input before drilling the hole for it.

Be careful with this ! IE: using tabs with a boat that can pop on plane.

I have my trim tabs toggles (will show pic of them below) reachable from throttle when it's buried. In my case, trim tabs aren't fast enough anyway from full down. My boat will jump right out of water if I go wot from idle, and then tabs will bury the nose.Not good !

Hard enough for the drive trim to move fast enough.

Don't know if your boat gets on plane this fast, but it doesn't sound far off.

Anyway, not good for drive irregardless of using the tabs.

Try not to race people this way.Better idea is once on plane.

I've done it just a few times for fun, and a few times to beat a storm and tons of boats coming out from no wake under a bridge. The boat willjump right out onto the prop and go...again, is the throttle is smashed thru the dash. :)

These let you bump them with side, top, bottom of finger , hand, etc,etc Much easier to do by feel when schit hits the fan vs regular rockers.

Regular rocker switches force you to push and hold.

I use these for tabs. Drive trim is on throttle as are most.

I guess I've never thought of drag racing an offshore boat, from a dead stop.

Have you considered adding a Whipple supercharger, you may be leaving a wheelie on the table.

Hard/fast hole shots shorten your drive life. Don't do them.
