Heads/Cam or Supercharger?
I am second guessing the purchase of my aluminum heads/cam setup on my 454's.
Should I just leave them iron headed with stock cams and just buy pro chargers? I have the 385hp 454 mag Efi motors with less the. 500 hours, leak down and compression are good so... |
put the heads on and then a supercharger.invest in a bigger oil cooler too

I'd love to do both, but $10k per motor is pretty much my full budget since I'm dealing with transom, Upholstry, and gauges right now. Plus I just bought manifolds and risers too.

Welcome to powerboats... Money grubbing whores is what they are:santa:
My buddy is a vortech dealer and can get me a couple of marine kits for about the same price as what I'm spending on heads/cam. |
Dollar for dollar the vortech's will beat the n/a setup in power The rotating assembly in the mag engines is very stout and will handle the power. Head gaskets might not like it as much but nothing some new felpros and a straight surface with stock headbolts cant cure.

With my very little practical experience on the matter I'd say upgrade the oil lines and cooler and add the charger on it. But how many hours on those heads? If they're due for a freshining up then that may answer your question right there.
