Hydraulic lifter acts as a shock absorber. There`s no "give" in a solid setup. I wouldn`t put that on an endurance deal.

Exactly why I have said several times we need a thread with sound, proven engine recipes. a 650 ~700 hp 540 is not cutting edge rocket science, neither is a 500 hp 454. Im willing to bet there are many out there who would like to build a proven combo once and go boating instead of spending 3 years and a gazzilion dollars trying to figure out why your sh!t don't work,

Sure there are people who want to do it their way, want to try new things etc... but I bet there are people who just want their bot to run decent.


As for hyd vs solid and adjusting... Tim, our season is short, would you rather spend a couple of those weekends in the garage adjusting valves or would you rather run the risk of being 1.5 mph slower and be at the casino 2 extra weekends a season?

It'd be helpful but still can't control all the variables that come into play during machining and assembly. There will still be lots of failures.

Comp or Bullet solid roller with Crower 66291H lifters, Pac springs and shaft rockers used to go a few seasons without any issues.

Can you get the valve covers off if they are stock height? Or the two bolt Keith Eckert ones?
