1981 Scarab S Type 330 TRS. Outdrives can easily move either direction not running.
I want to stay with the stock power steering. Trying to make sure the stock set up is functioning correctly.
I replaced the valve body and that helped a little. But it is extremely easy to turn the wheel with the boat running. Feels a little loose. With the boat off you can move the TRS drives from side to side easily. My previous S Type had power steering and was rock solid could run 70MPH with no worries but I do not think you could move the outdrives from side to side on the trailer. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks |
The stock setup does have some play in it, just the way it's made. There is play in the cable and rack, then a tad more where the cable attaches to the ram. If there is any play in the upper and lower pin it just gets worst

I owed a 1982 S type and the steering was rock solid. It was not loose at all.
There is no play in the pins at all. |
Gently swing the drive side to side a little while holding the steering arm inside the boat to see if there is slop OR if the arm and drive move together firmly. OR Hold the drive steady from moving and see if the steering arm has play in it.
