SSM Exhaust
Been tossing the idea around of replacing our CMI E Top headers in exchange for SSM manifolds. Our CMI headers have been great. But while everything is out might just replace it all.
This is a 500efi application. What is required to make the change? Are they plug and play or are modifications required. One of the websites mentioned needing a tool to machine the heads? I assume this is the setup I would need? http://www.cpperformance.com/p-16690...dard-exit.aspx |
Stainless are plug and play with 500s. 525s are drilled different and you'd need the jig to redrill the heads.

the newer 525 headers they have both bolt pattern drilled in the flange, they will fit the Edelbrock 525 heads or the standard BBC bolt pattern

Maybe I'm missing something. I was thinking you wanted stainless marine manifolds for the 500s. Admittedly I haven't looked at the link. I'm offshore and my internet is struggling to open it. If the case is stainless marine manifolds on a 500 you shouldn't need anything extra.

I miss read it, oops

Thanks for the responses...looking at the EMI option. Did a bunch of research. Are the SM manifolds that much nicer then the EMI offerings.
As I understand it, EMI are 1800-2200 and the SM are 3300. Huge price difference unless I'm wrong? Even the DAna exhaust are cheaper. |
The link above is for 525 or 700 replacement because they have a different bolt pattern. You need standard big block exhaust which is much cheaper

Emi are cheaper for a reason. SM are far superior to emi. The ones MT posted are the best performing and they will powdercoat them in different colors.

I have a pair of SSM's on my small blocks and could not be more pleased with the quality. I spoke to stainless marine and the owner before ordering and they were a pleasure to deal with. When I placed my order, they were one riser short in inventory, the owner made it and overnight shipped it to arrive one day behind the original order. Hard to find that service these days.

Aren't the EMI units having material problems these days? I thought that I read that folks were having failures on even newer units because they started getting raw materials from China. I could be wrong but just mentioning it.
