525,600,700 header gaskets
#11
We have some MLS stainless steel gaskets made for the 525, 600,700. They are lifetime gaskets. You can not hurt them. If the header loosens, the stock gasket will push out. You then have to take the header off and remove the gasket and replace it. Mercury gets almost $60 per set. Our gaskets are a little more, but they will last forever. If the header comes loose and starts to leak exhaust gases, just tighten it back it. You WILL NOT blow the gasket out. They are $85 per set and worth every penny.

Plus, I bet it's pretty nice not to have to scrape the old gasket material off the heads every time too..

That is the biggest pain of all of it. After they have been run for a while, the Merc gaskets get very hard and stick to the head with vengeance. You have to completely remove the header to be able to scrape (beat) the gasket off. No more of that with these gaskets.

I can get the MLS gaskets as well and yes that's the way to go 4 sure. I TOTALLY AGREE with Mr. Young. My problem is I do not see that many 525 or 600's around in my area anymore like we use to. Currently I do not have any in stock but will soon as boating season seems to be starting early this year. Weather warmer and lake levels up / normal here.

I'm about to reinstall my 525 headers after pressure testing them and will be using new Mercury gaskets. Should I install them raw as Mercury appeared to do or should I use a copper sealant?
