Oil pans BBC

Bump

This feels like a stupid question, but what oil pans are you all using? I'm yanking the engine for a cam swap and feel the standard GM pan is small on capacity. It is a budget build so a billet 40qt pan isn't in the plans, but it seems like it can be better.

Not a stupid question at all. Some pans out there are junk. I been using this Milodon for a few years now and it seems to be pretty nice. This one in the link is for a Mark lV .

That's a nice pan. Thanks for the link!

Just the stock 4ish quart unit that came on the crate motor.

Boatally Insane 02-06-2017 01:52 PM

I'm running the "Summit Racing" brand version of that one... :).. Not too bad for $220...

I ended up finding one of these used but in perfect condition for really cheap.

I just bought and installed a pair of Canton 10 qt marine pans. Look pretty nice for $400

Ive used the Cantons before they seem ok. Hamburgers are hit and miss.

The stock 8qt pan would be a major upgrade over what you have. Same pan on engines up to 700sci. Can probably be had for $100.

$229 new for a GM Marine pan. Don't think anything else is included with it though.

Here's a Gen V/VI pan

I run Dooley Enterprises on my own engines and they've been great and Stef's on some others.

That was a winner right there, but no windage tray or baffles?

I was thinking the same thing, it would be an issue in a twin application with the angled bottom

A nice pan for the right price, but I think I need one tapered shallower on the front. I don't have offshore mounts, but my bilge pump lives there and space is pretty tight already. I'm no expert but I think I have a pretty low X dimension as it is. There's what seems like two feet from the carb flange to the bottom of the hatch.

Have you dynoed w them yet, anf if so hoe high hsve you revved them? I bought a pair of the 10qts thst are a step up from them and im chasing a mystery oil pressure issue from 6000/6200 up. Talked to a guy at canton who told me.hes never seen a problem with the 364 but that the next one down "doesnt like rpms", im digging hard to get to root of wild oil pressure swings, may not even be pan relsted, i will know very soon, Smitty

snapmorgan 02-08-2017 06:25 AM

I bought the 18-380 pans. haven't dyno'd yet, but expect to in the next couple of weeks

Very well could be too much oil.
