I called Dennis Moore yesterday and he's well versed on the Merc OE stuff that he sales, he had listed a carter pump on his site. After speaking with him he said all that is available now is the Airtex pump and that's what Merc is using. I told him the issue I was having and he stated there is known problem with the 2 screws holding the rear diaphragm becoming loose and some new ones are not tight out of the box. Amazon is sending me a replacement Airtex and I will take it apart to check before swapping out. Dennis also said to remove the the self tap screws and through bolt with machine crews and nuts as the factory self tapping screws loosen easy. Seems like a giant liability for Airtex not addressing this issue before blowing up someones boat.
