Thanks and for the postive post my way. I really try and treat stuff like it was my own no matter of the person or the dollar value. I like to think about all of this and the best options for all boating stuff period.

John: Like I said in my original post I do not question your knowledge. I was only asking if anyone has any other advice out there. I have been working on aircraft for over 34 years and it never hurts to learn new technics in maintenance. From the sounds of it I am not the only one by a long shot having to resolve the issues of these outdated injectors. I will tell the others that the six videos that you sent me of the test do show how bad my injectors are.
Mark thanks for the reply, I totally understand your end 100 %. Need to add, in no way I was taking your post in any form as a negative . Actually if you told me just to send your injectors back - I would still PREACH to you please do not use them or do not buy a used set.
Anyways I was not posting to counter you but posting so others can learn plus on top of if plus if there is anything in the mix to be learned about injectors.
If one would look at my posts thru out this forum, they are long winded as I try to post alot of info for all but of course I am a bad writer and poor speller on top of, that does not make me dumb.
You let me know however which direction you want to take with your injectors. You have my PM and phone number. I totally understand your side plus not knowing me from adam as I expected you would have questions. I told you that as well on the phone, I am good with you no matter how ever you handle this. I do not blame you for posting either as this probably helped others. . Anyways if ever anyone has questions about this, just ask plus I have gave out my phone number plenty of times up here.

I have talked this over before with my builder. He has not been able to find a cross over to another injector. We had all of mine cleaned and tested, so far I have replaced 3.
We decided when rebuild time comes that we will replace with better injectors and remap for them.

This style of injector is a saturated injector - 90 % of the time -- the coils have weaken and basically will get worse - cleaning really does not fix the problem. Keep in mind injectors are electrical and a mechanical device - basically like a solenoid - describing in very laymen terms.

There never seems to be a perfect crossover. After i got my flowing/cleaning injector bench and started doing injectors for paying customers, i quickly went thru all the spare mefi3/gen 6 502/454 Maggetti marelli fiat injectors i had fixing up sets thst had one low or high flowing injector. About same time i became a dealer for racetronix, they sell many injectors and they are match flowed sets. So i bought a set of 42lb siemans deka ev-1shortys, they will bolt directly into a 454/502 mefi3 intake. Put on flow bench alongside the stock ones, waaaay under flowed, the stock 502 mag micro injectors are in the 46 to 48 lb range, i was hoping that without reprogramming the ecu these could drop in with maybe just a fuel pressure change, even at 60 psi not even close though. Gimme fuel melted a piston in his 38 PQ w 502s slmost immediately after buying it. The wishful thinking that some techtron cleaner and seafoam was going to do magic with his injectors that had been sitting a while was wishful thinking. After finding 5 injectors out of sixteen that even after flowing and cleaning were too high or too low he made decision to buy new ones. I got him 16 siemans deka 63 lb ev-1 shortys, i re-scaled his mefi-3 stock tune to account for the difference after flowing them side by side to get a true percentage difference. That tune was only a starting point and i told him boat really needed to be tuned in the water too. His exhaust being cast iron has nonprovisiond for o2 bungs so he rsn it the way it was. Seems to run fine, i erred on the cautious side HOWEVER and didnt reduce his fuel tables by the exact difference as i didnt want to be "that guy"!
Articfriends knows his chit for sure. Stock Merc injectors are horrible.

Im going to buy a couple of the 36/38 lb injectors racetronix sells and put them on the bench next to some 500efi injectors and see how close the characteristics are. Another thing thats over looked is "dead band, injector latency or injector flow vs voltage", what ever you want to call it. I built a 588 hp pontiac with efi/mefi4 and siemans deka 63lb injectors. Had various alternator problems with car as it had alot of electrical load, burned up powermasters etc 105 amps, 140 amps until i found out they cant even put out half their rating for more than a few minutes. In middle of all that we were tuning the car , test driving it w afr gauges. We would get afrs about where we wanted them at load vs rpms etc then they would go lean or rich mysteriously. Was a struggle, then i found the injector voltage bias table in programming, found injector characteristics online and they were no where close to what we had. If dead band was .5ms at 11.8 volts for the sd injectors and .9 ms for stock ones then the correction totally fubared the tune as voltage on car went up or down. Especially in the tables where pw was only 1.8 or something anyways. Boats do the same thing! If you had wrong injector bias in your tune, ran battery's way down, had tune on edge and got boat to start, leaned on it hard with amps cranking, lights on etc on way back to dock you vould end up being "that guy". Food for thought, Smitty
