Any pics of the heads?

mike tkach 04-12-2017 10:05 AM

the op said the engine is a merc reman,i am doubting that.it is most likely a 330 with engine quest replacement heads.the engine quest replacement head is a better head than the gm head and it is less money, that is a win in my book.

also,every 1990 330 engine i have had apart had 4 bolt main blocks.edit in,all gen 5 and gen 6 blocks are 4 bolt mains.

Suks not having what you think you have...but better finding out before a schiton of parts are ordered.

Time to visibily check every part on this engine....to know 100% what you are dealing with.

The engine is apart and pics already taken. Just don't see an option to post them.
Also crankshaft is forged and so are rods. Block is also 4 bolt main

every 454 gm ever made has a forged rod,the low performance ones used a 3/8 rod bolt, the hi perf ones used a 7/16 rod bolt.through the years people have used all sorts of parts building low buck 454s,stock and aftermarket.i have been amazed at some of the weird combinations i have seen through the years.

Sort of thread jack. 502's. Did they ALL have forged cranks and forged small-really small-domed pistons?

Yes. All 502's had forged crank, 7/16" rods, J&E forged small dome pistons (listed at 8.7 compression with 119cc chamber heads)

As a side note: scat made some of the forged cranks.

I I'll see about paying the fee later tonight so I can post pictures.

For what's it's worth the merc reman tag says it's a 2001 7.4 mag mpi
Also without question I have forged crank
Casting number 14091744.
My rods have 7/16" bolts and the rods have a dimple on them.
The block is a 4 bolt main. Camshaft is roller.
I posted all of this info in the beginning but this thread has really taken off.
And I really do appreciate all the help you guys have been giving.
Oh and lastly despite being a November 2001 build date the previous owner said it was replaced in 2011.
I don't think it sat for ten years. Maybe someone installed these pistons after it left Mercruiser?
I suspect these pistons are TRW units.
Also they seem very heavy. But I'm a Porsche tech and pistons from Porsche are lightweight to an extreme so.....
