Shotguns destroyed after an hour ???

I installed a brand new pair of Shotguns on my Talon this week and went out for 1hr today. When I was washing her I noticed both Shotguns are destroyed. The outer shine is stained/corroded beyond imagination, almost no shine left, my tailpipes are still perfect. Boat was in salt water for 1 hr, engine is 588cu that is open loop and temp never gets above 130 degrees.
Like I previously stated, the tailpipes that the shotguns are attached to are still perfect

I may be wrong but if I remember correctly Shotguns are stainless steel not chrome. I would give Drew Martine a call. I had them on a 280 Velocity and never had a problem with the finish.

They should be stainless, have you tried to just polish them with a light abrasive stainless polish? They are most likely running hotter than what you were use to with your previous set-up causing water stains from the salt.

Spray some LimeAway on them let sit for 30sec and rub a little then rinse with water. Calcium in water cooked out by extra heat from muffler.

I just scrubbed for 2 hrs with Blue Magic and removed most of the orange and white stains off, still have some water stains. I'll try Lime Away tomorrow. I am guessing this is why previous owner just had open pipes with no mufflers or tips.
Thanks guys

To make it easy you can cut thru it with a small wheel and red paste then come back and wheel polish it with the Blue Magic. This is what i do with all my exhaust parts.

I had Shotguns on my Pantera and never had mineral build up issues.

On my AT, I have Gaffrig switchable mufflers similar to Shotguns and they are impossible to keep shiny and get tons of mineral build up.

I don't want to pull the tips off and spend a bunch of time buffing them every time I go out for an hour, do you think powder coating would hold up to the exhaust temps? I could see the exhaust pipes getting that hot, but the tips? I had motorcycle headers done with a ceramic coating years ago, but believe powder coating would look better. - Thanks

Have you tried the lime-away yet? My tips do that every time I go out. Spray them with lime-away and wipe them off. They look like brand new.
