Maybe a silly question but why didn't you send him the complete engine to Check?

Got. It, that makes sense. Hopefully it will be an easy fix and you will quickly get back on the Water.

Maybe like tinkerer said. The bolts are too long but in the manifold. I started one engine in boat the other day and have the intake installed on the one I pulled. Hoping to have it in by Fri. I'd be eyeballing that intake. I had to replace my darts. They looked great but had eroded around the water ports. Probably could have used them but don't want any issues. I bought new merlin marine intakes. They have brass inserts at all water passages. I know they don't perform as well as darts but they aren't going give me any surprises

Im guessing its either the manifold itself is warped (definitly doesnt look rotted, pitted) or perhaps a gasket wasnt installed right
i triple checked all my hoses were sealed, i tried 2 different pumps, and i called 2 of my racing buddies to come double check me. All 3 of us agreed we could hear the air moving inside the motor. I have a call i to him to see what he wants to do next. Worst case i guess i plane the intake or buy a new one. |
My memory must be bad.
I looked at the bottom of the i take a year ago. I dont recall it being bad but just got off the phone and he thinks its pitted around the water ports. Hea machinning it now. Hopefully this nightmare is over. |
Oh yea funny story about the 4th. (This is how bad my luck with boats is).
My FIL owns a little 23ft cobalt that he never uses. He calls me up and says he wants us to use it. He knows our situation and he hasnt used the boat since last summer. I flat out say NO! I figure with my luck the phucker will sink. Wife and son beg and i finally say fine. FIL SAYS ITS ALL READY TO GO, charged battery, had it running a week or so ago etc. Now im up in the attic of my garage digging up wakeboards, kneeboards, tubes and every other toy known to man since we never get to use them with the velocity. Load it all into the truck, drive to inlaws and then he already has boat hooked to his truck. So unload my truck and put in his truck. Finally head to lake. Stop and fill boat up with gas. Get to lake. Take all the chit we brought and load it into the boat. Back down the ramp. Lower out drive....click click click click.......battery is dead! At this point im about fuming mad but finally say screw it not my day. Un load everything back into truck. About this time my phone is ringing off the hook. Buddies teying to get me to hop on with them. I decline and tell em i have a black cloud following me and im staying on land for their own protection. I seriously am starting to feel like someone is telling not to boat this summer. |
Hang in there, man.

No more than an intake costs relative to the rest of the engine I'd toss that one in the trash and buy new. Then again I'm used to throwing $$$ hand over fist at boats the last couple years.

I just looked on the summit racing site. They have a bunch of different brands from dart to summit to edlbrock Victor . That summit brand single plane has a very nice price on it. Prices go from 200 to around 450 or so
