5.0 mpi alarm

Hi!

I jusr fired up my 20 outlaw for the first this year, ran it at low rpms til it got warm. But later, when i gave it some throttle the alarm beep came at 4000 rpm... Any ideas? Can it be as simple as old gas? In Finland we have two kinds of gas, 95 and 98 octane. I have heard stories of new outboard engines that won't start with old gas, probably because the octane number ain't what it is supposed to be after the winter?

Could be a lot of things. Easiest way is just to get a scanner on it and you'll know real quick.

Its not old gas. Was this run on a hose or in the water???

PFL 06-08-2017 05:11 AM

I ran it on hose. I think the "problem" is solved though. A mechanic told me the rev limiter steps in at about 4000 rpm if you rev it without gear...

Isn't it always nice to learn something new :D

Its not good to do a high rev on the trailer, besides sucking the hose dry the input shaft of the drive is doing 4k also.

LOL. I'm sure all of us assumed this was in the water. Not in neutral on the trailer.

Let us know if it happens on the water, and if it does, if the alarm beeps and how many beeps.

Agree.

Not enough water flow on the hose for anything above 1000 rpms.

BUP 06-08-2017 03:16 PM

over speed will set at 3500 rpms free reving the engine.

Never had a problem running boats on the water hose even up to 3000 rpms - use the correct muffs and or connections with a heavy grade commercial water hose you will not have a prob,

30 years over 12000 boats never had a problem running on water hoses just under 3 k rpms and down.

Also per Merc winterization is run boat 1300 rpms to warm it up for fogging procedures. The engine will stall at any lower rpms (carb ) engine while fogging.

water hose and 4 sure over 2 k rpms running for testing. Surely Boostpower would agree that one can run boats on the water hose up to a certain RPM. And I do to

testing with the prop dyno and water hose source to-
