Prop Slip
Did a search on prop slip here on OSO. Trying to see if my rig is in the game for % of slip I am running. Using Bam's calculator and then run the same exact numbers through Bronson Hills calculator I get 2% differance with the exact same numbers. Granted 2% is not a lot but I guess all calculators are not the same.
I am running a 29' deep vee no pad or steps. Any comments on the slip % I should be in the range of. Single Bravo 1 drive BBC. What do you guys run for slip numbers? Maybe I should be looking at different speed calculators I may be going faster than I think!! :D :D |
23p mirage plus / 63mph / 1.5 / 4800rpm.

Using Merc's calculator and calling your 23" Mirage+ a 24" as they recommend because or the progressive pitch blade design and the cup, I get a slip factor of 13-1/2%. That isn't a really good # for a lightweight competition unit, (you would be looking for something more in the10-12% range) but it's really quite good for a boat that size with what sounds to be a relatively stock set-up. If you call the prop a regular 23 the % improves to 10% slip and that borders on almost impossible for the rig you describe. How did you get that 63 mph #? Speedo?, GPS?, Radar?, 2-way average?? Something sounds just too good to be true here but if it is - DON"T CHANGE A GAWD-DAMN THING!! --- Jer

The calculator used on the BAM site is wrong. Do the math by hand and you will see it is not correct.
