Fuel Pump Mech or Elec... What are you running... Are you happy...

I know this has been asked a couple times but I can't seem to find any good threads on the topic...

My boat has the stock mech pumps on the sea water pumps and then it also has Mallory 140's on the bulkhead. I'm assuming they did not think the stock mercruiser pumps would keep up??

The motors are 600sc's which I've reworked to around 750. The ****ty Mallory 140 pumps keep failing on me, I've had them off a dozen times in the last 10 years. ... And now I'm having issues with one of the mechanical pumps. So it's time I change this setup and get down to just two pumps...

I've been looking at the baker pumps, but it does not look like they make a pump that works in the sea water pump? I'm going to call them today and ask... But if you have any knowledge here I would love to hear it..

Anyhow the question is what are you running, mech or elc, what brand, pros and cons....

FYI... I have gev 5 blocks, so I cannot run a block mounted Fuel pump... As there is no fuel pump boss..

Thanks..

Put on a pair of Weldon 1100-A's and be done with it

Those look nice and not too expensive...

Do you know if I need to run return regulators and return lines with those? I was hoping to get away with keeping my current regulators and not having to run return lines.

Returning to the tank is certainly the best way, but you can get by with returning to the filter head

I think any good high flow electric pump will require a return, some mechanicals flow a lot and can keep up, I like the no wiring aspect also as one less then to go wrong out on the water... we know I need that lol

Many people put a Holley 130gph bottom on the Carter Merc top to keep running the mechanical pump, which is what I did. I'm not sure if it'll support 750hp HP as that seems right on the limit. I don't like electric pumps in a boat myself, but that's just preference.

I also ran the 140 Mallory's I don't like them one bit. They need a very good pre filter and the relief valves get hung up also. Weldon is my first choice. I did run the holley black pumps and had good luck with them.

We have been useing these CV pumps for years and they have worked flawlessly and will hold 7 psi at WOT supporting 780HP without a regulator or return lines. Very nice pumps. We also put a 1/8 IPS fitting in the top to the pump in case of a failure. The have worked flawlessly.
