Can't find a starter

What starter fits a 4 cylinder gm block with casting number14097080 and stamping number 2m03103 it is in my 1997 chaperell boat. Bought it from auction and was missing the starter. I'm assuming the engine has been replaced. Thanks.

Ayuh,..... The odds are it's got a 12" flywheel, 'n straight across bolt pattern,.....

I've never seen a 2.5l or 3.0l with the 14" flywheel, 'n staggered bolt pattern starter,....

Bolt pattern is staggered

You're sure there's not three different starter bolts down there? Because that engine usually has the small flywheel and the two straight parallel bolts. Before you do anything, get down there with a big screwdriver and see if you can turn that flywheel with the screwdriver. That's probably a reason that starter got taken off that boat and then the boat sold at auction. If that's a seized engine you might be starting from scratch, not worrying about which starter it takes.

Checked engine, not seized, there is a a hole straight across but is a larger size and shallow. The starters that are supposed to work don't get close enough to even try the bolts before the solinoid is interfering with the engine.

From the Internet research I've done I gather that engine is an industrial gm vortex 3000 but the stamping number doesn't line up with any of the charts I've found.

Which side of the engine is the starter going on?

Which side of the engine is the starter going on? Sounds like you are trying to put it on the left.

From the Internet research I've done
Ayuh,.... Chevy marine starters only come 2 flavors,.... Staggered, 'n straight across bolt patterns,....

Never seen any with the solenoid clocked any differently,.....

Is the straight across hole got a broken bolt stuck in it,..??

This would probably easier if ya Id the motor, as in a Merc 3.0l, Alpha, Gen.II drive, or whatever's in yer Chaperell
