Drive Hydraulic Manifold Questions
I'm having much difficulty re-attaching the hydraulic lines to the hydraulic manifold on a 1996 Bravo 1. Three of the 4 lines will not screw in; i.e. they get to what feels like the point where they will cross thread with a finger, then I put a wrench on it and it pops out. I have an option to fix and be able to get on the water for July 4 (as planned) but that requires removing the manifold. So two questions:
1. What size chase (pitch etc.) would I use in the female holes on the manifold to clean up the threads? *I'm not familiar with flair fitting thread taps nor chasers. 2. What material is the manifold to gimble ring gasket? *Looks like thick gasket (paper) material by the fray's in the pictures in the below link but I'd rather know for sure before removing and attempting to make my own. 988231 Hydraulic Connector Gasket - Mercury Marine | Crowley Marine Thanks for any help you an lend. if you take it right off, don't mix up the 2 inside hoses. then go to auto parts store and you will find a brake line with the right thread for a chaser. you could make gasket out of most anything. use RTV.

Using this info. a machinist (friend of friend) converted to 3/8"-24 bottom tap. He then shortened (cut off all but 1 shallow lift of starter threads due to the shallow depth of the hole) and delivered to me 80 mi. round trip to finish my project (for a fee of course). This got me on the water for 4th of July fireworks as planned 6 weeks sooner. The threads (21 yrs. old) were full of buildup most likely the culprit in my difficulties. Best news is after the outing there isn't any milkshake present in the hydraulic system.
