velvet drive 71c to 72c drive conversion questions

I'm getting ready to ditch my 71c single disk transmissions out of my 86 panther with 454 mags, and upgrade them to the 72c 10-18-014.

I seem to remember reading somewhere. but cannot find it that the 72c transmissions are a inch longer than the 71c transmissions?

I'm assuming I will have to move both engines forward 1 inch? If so, before I bother making a new mount, does anyone offer a conversion mount for the 454?

Is there anything else I might need to consider when swapping out the transmissions? I'm assuming everything else will drop in and hook up. Both are trs tail stock.

You may very well be right but for some reason I don't remember the length diff. Merc trans most definitely but... you may correct. Someone will chime in soon with def knowledge.

yes, need to go forward 1"... what type of mounts you have?

the only conversion is relocating mounts farther north. if you have angle plates on the stringers that the mounts sit on, you may have enough room to relocate the mounts on the plates without moving the plates...

have seen it done with 1x1.5 aluminum stock drilled to accommodate

Fantastic!. Thanks for the replies. What mounts do I have? No freaken idea yet, you cant see down there lol. Once I pull some parts off I should be able to sneak my way in. Pretty tight fit on the panther.

I should be pulling them next week. First I need to modify my gantry by about 5 inches so I can clear my trailer.

You can go to any transmission shop and have additional clutch plates added to your current 71C transmissions. We raced in APBA B class with a similar hull and weight and never had a transmission failure racing with the modified 71C transmissions.
