Replacing shaft seal in tailstock?
Are theese seals pressed in? I have replaced plenty of seals and I know how easy it is to fu#k up, but it seems like there is no good way to do it. I am open for suggestions.

The tailstock of...............what?

tailstock that bolts on to the drive end of the transmission. It holds the driveshaft of the outdrive in place. This is on an older application, I am not sure how the new stuff works.

I just did one
I just did one a few months ago. I blew a trans, and wanted to replace the seal while I was in there.
Just un-bolt the tailstock, and bang out the old seal. I hammered mine in with a pipe that fit to the outside of the seal. Nock it in slowly, there is no lip to stop the seal from going in too far. Knock it in as far as the old one was pressed in. If you have a press, it may be easier to do it that way. Although I went in pretty easy. |
