525sc
I purchased a 27 Fountain Fever with a 525SC this summer. I am trying to find info on maintenance on the supercharger but I am not finding much. How often do you change the fluid and how do you do it? It appears to be a Weiand 177. Thanks

Apparently there is no drain. I got a flavor shooter from walmart. 25 cc giant syringe for squirting stuff into turkeys and such. About 4 bucks. Has a 2 inch long needle. I use it to cc heads and such. But it'll work good for sucking oil out without R&R blower to dump it. They say any high quality 75-90 gear oil, but there is an oil marketed for blowers. How often to change it? Dunno, but right now would not be a bad idea. Oh yeah. 2 reservoirs. Front and back.

The front has dipstick in the fill hole. The rear has pipe fill plug. They are completely separate areas.
You have to suck out the lube to change it. I used to use a 30cc syringe with a piece of tubing on it. Neither side holds much lube. Maybe 3-4 ozs. Change it every 50 hrs or so. I used Merc HP gear lube (drive lube) and had almost 500hrs on my 177SC without being opened when I sold the boat. 525SC's are thirsty and pretty sure you only have a 60 gallon tank. Also, the fuel pump/seapump lube gets fuel diluted easily. Plan on chnaging that also every 50 or so hours. |

Yes I only have about a 60 gallon tank. I was not even aware of the fuel pump/sea pump lube
i just rebuilt one over the weekend. cooked the arm off the fuel pump and munched the sacrificial cam bushing.. replaced bearings and seals... all in costs over $450 in parts + labor.. I'd recommend changing it yearly. |
